Welcome to the website of the State Emergency Service Volunteers Association of Western Australia Incorporated (SESVA).  The SESVA was formed in the late 1980’s with the objective of providing a focus for representing the views of SES Volunteers on issues which affect them.  The SESVA has developed the ability to strongly voice the opinion of the volunteers  where, when necessary, to the benefit of all the Volunteers of the SES, where the action of a single Volunteer or small group would not be as effective.  The SESVA represents SES volunteers on a number of committees and working groups and has regular meetings with FESA.

SESVA Role

SESVA role is to represent the views of SES Volunteers to all levels of Government, FESA and other agencies on all matters affecting  SES volunteers and the way in which we serve our communities.

SESVA Committee of Management

There is a Committee of Management to control the Association.
The Management Committee consists of the following members:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Regional Representatives

Powers of the Management Committee

The Management Committee is the deliberative body in the Association with powers to make and direct policy, make, amend, or rescind the Constitution, and generally to take such actions as it considers necessary for the furtherance of the Association and its objects.  The general management of the affairs of the Association is vested in the Management Committee. 

Executive Council

An executive council, consisting of the President, Vice President, Secretary and any two committee members shall take care of the day to day affairs of the Association. The executive council may authorise payments on behalf of the Association.

Objects of the Association

  • Be an independent and representative body of the volunteers of the State Emergency Service of Western Australia and the Volunteer Emergency Service
  • Promote and communicate knowledge and information to and amongst the volunteers of the State Emergency Service of Western Australia and the Volunteer Emergency Service
  • Provide an effective voice for the volunteers of the State Emergency Service of Western Australia and the Volunteer Emergency Service
  • Operate a fund or trust for the benefit of volunteers of the State Emergency Service of Western Australia and the Volunteer Emergency Service

Current SESVA Activities:

  • Regular contact with FESA CEO and Executive to discuss strategic, policy and high level issues
  • Monthly meeting with COO, ACOO and stakeholders managers to discuss operational issues
  • Membership of SES Consultative Committee
  • Membership of subject matter groups, PPE, equipment, communications and vehicles.
  • Co-partnering with FESA to organise the annual SES conference and awards night
  • Attending AFAC conference
  • Attending Local managers meetings
  • SESVA website management
  • Publishing SESVA Journal, calendar and diary
  • Attending to local issues when requested
  • SES Licence Plate Project

Tropical Cyclone Iggy is expected to intensify over the weekend as it moves towards Western Australia's Pilbara coastThe SES has warned residents in the Midwest Gascoyne and Pilbara regions in coastal areas from Port Hedland to Coral Bay to prepare their homes and family.  This includes people in Karratha, Onslow, Exmouth, Wickam, Point Samson, Dampier, Roebourne and surrounding areas.  Remember that preparing your home and family for a cyclone is your responsibility,'' SES says.  The Bureau of Meteorology says Iggy i


26/01/2012 - Gosnells SES Celebrates Australia Day

The Gosnells SES celebrated the forthcoming Australia Day and new year with a social gathering. It had been intended to be a BBQ, however an alternate startegy to combat the current heat wave was to have Pizzas instead. I am sure there was a BBQ flavoured one in there somewhere.
The social was to bring members together before commencing the new year with weekly training and callouts to assist the community. We appreciate that some of our colleages have been busy with cyclones etc over the Christmas & New year as natural and manmade emergencies always happen, Well done!

25/01/2012 - WA bracing for bad weather this week

Perth is set for a record breaking week of very high temperatures while the State’s north west prepares for a potential cyclone and thunderstorms.  People are being urged to ensure they are ready for all types of weather that might come their way.  Bureau of Meteorology Manager of Weather Services Grahame Reader said a whole host of significant weather events are expected in the next seven days.


24/01/2012 - News from Gosnells SES

Paul Hollamby, Local Manager, Gosnells State Emergency Service says that our community prepares in many different ways to celebrate Australia Day, a barbeque with friends, attending the fireworks or just spend quality time with family. With Australia Day on Thursday this year, many people are going to make it a four day long weekend.  While the majority of the community is preparing to party, State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers around the state are preparing for disaster.


20/01/2012 - SES Volunteers respond to calls for assistance

State Emergency Service (SES)  volunteers have answered more than 65 calls for help this morning after thunderstorms hit Perth. The majority of calls have been for flooding.  Damage has been reported from Swan to Armadale to Rockingham and Mandurah.   The majority of the calls have come from Rockingham and Mandurah.    Stoneville Shopping Centre has reported flooding and PCYC in Rockingham has sustained some roof damage.

The Fire & Emergency Services Authority (FESA) is offering one place on the Quiet Lion Tour to either an Emergency Services Cadet or a Junior/Cadet member of a Volunteer Brigade, Group or Unit (BGU). The Quiet Lion Tour, which is organised by the Burma Thai Railway Memorial Association, is a fully guided tour of the Burma Thai Railway and has been operating for a number of years. The tour leaves every April, and the highlight is an ANZAC Day ceremony at ‘Hellfire Pass’, an area of significance on the railway.


12/01/2012 - News from Kalbarri SES

Mac Holt reports that Kalbarri SES has had a couple of small operations in December and had a great end of year wind up with medal presentations and slide show review of the last years very busy schedule of operations, training and recruitment of new members.  Active membership is now the largest in recent memory. So skills maintenance and bringing new members ‘up to speed’ in the shortest time is a priority to enable us to respond professionally to whatever operations are  thrown at us.
